PCAST - Realizing the full potential of Health Information Technology
Sunday, December 12, 2010 at 6:38AM The President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) is an advisory group of the nation’s leading scientists and engineers, appointed by the President to augment the science and technology advice available to him from inside the White House and from cabinet departments and other Federal agencies.
The PCAST report entitled “Realizing the Full Potential of Health Information Technology to Improve Healthcare for Americans: The Path Forward” examines how health information technology could improve the quality of healthcare and reduce its cost, and whether existing Federal efforts in health information technology are optimized for these goals. In particular, the report emphasizes a “universal exchange language” that enables health IT data to be shared across institutions.
Please take a few minutes to view the webcast and read the report. I suggest people also read John Halamka's excellent summary of the PCAST recommendations around universal exchange language.
