2011 OHT Academic Challenge Contributions to the Open Source Community

The 2011 Open Health Tools Academic Challenge was held on April 14, 2011.  The contributions of the participating student teams are now available to the Open Source Community.  Interested parties may access the source code and complete documentation by visiting the Open Health Tools Academic Outreach Project wiki.

The Academic Challenge is an initiative of the Academic Outreach Project

The 2011 OHT Academic Challenge was co-organized by Open Health Tools (OHT), Transformations at the Edge (TATE), and American Academy of Family Physicians National Research Network (AAFP NRN).  Please click here for an overview of the 2011 OHT Academic Challenge Use Cases.

The mission of the OHT Academic Outreach Project is to provide a home within openhealthtools.org for universities to encourage students and faculty to learn the skills needed to:

  1. work in modern healthcare IT environments
  2. to use materials from the open source community in healthcare
  3. to interact with the open source community in healthcare

TATE serves as the Program Office for the Open Health Tools Academic Outreach Project in the United States.

2011 OHT Academic Challenge:

Two university teams took up the 2011 OHT Academic Challenge:

  1. Florida International University (FIU) students created an Android smartphone application that collects and forwards data from a patient's home medical devices (Use Case No. 2)
  2. Georgia Institute of Technology (GaTech) students created an informed consent application for patients which is deployed as PHP server-side application formatted to support tablet devices (Use Case No. 3).
